Wedding Day Timeline

While all weddings are unique, they often follow a similar timeline. Below is an example of what a typical wedding day entails from a photographic standpoint.

  • 1:30-2:00 PM - Arrive thirty minutes before official start time to familiarize myself with the venue and set up equipment.
  • 2:00-2:15 PM - Photograph the venue and get detail shots of the reception hall, ceremony venue, flowers, place settings, gift table, etc.
  • 2:15-2:30 PM - Additional detail shots of wedding invites, rings, attire, etc.
  • 2:30-3:30 PM - Photograph bridal party getting hair and makeup done along with mother of the bride or bridesmaids helping bride into dress. If time permits it we will also do group photos with the bridal party.
  • 3:30-4:00 PM - Photograph groom and groomsmen getting ready. The window between 2:30 and 4:00 PM will change if you decide to do a first look. If you do, we may be able to do more group photos before the ceremony starts since we don't have to keep the parties from seeing each other.
  • 4:15-5:00 PM - Photograph the ceremony. Ceremony duration will vary greatly from wedding to wedding. For example, non-religious ceremonies can be as little as 15 minutes from start to finish while a full Catholic Mass may take as long as an hour and a half.
  • 5:00-6:00 PM - The cocktail hour is typically when we do formal family and group photos, followed by portraits of the newly weds. The more time we have to photograph the newly weds the better!
  • 6:00-9:45 PM - Reception are typically covered in a photojournalistic style. I'll photograph your guests, along with toasts, mother and father dances, cake cutting, bouquet toss, and anything else you may
  • have planned. I don't typically take pictures during dinner since eating is not a flattering activity, not to mention vendors also eat during dinner.
  • 9:45-10:00 PM - As a finally to the wedding, couples will sometimes choose to do a send off and end the wedding with a bang. Sparkler send offs are one of my favorite things to photograph, it makes for some truly magical photos!
